ENERGY FROM NORTH DAKOTA’S PRAIRIE

Stand on the prairies of Mercer County, North Dakota the busiest spot on the Energy Trail – and you can hear the sounds of an industry that is helping to fuel America. 

Dakota Gasification also known as Great Plains Synfuels Plans is located 5 miles northwest of Beulah.  It is the only commercial-sized coal gasification plant of its kind in the US.  The plant produces 153 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, plus many byproducts.  Tours by appointment Mon.-Fri. by calling 701-873-6667.

Coteau Properties located 8 miles northwest of Beulah.  Americas largest lignite coal mine Coteau supplies more than 15 million tons of lignite coal annually to DGC.  An up close view of the loading operation as you are in the pit below the massive dragline is certainly an "eye-opening" experience and will be talked about for days.  Tours available Mon.-Fri. by appointment (24 hours notice required). Antelope Valley Station – Seven miles northwest of Beulah.  A lignite-based electric generating station providing power to DGC.  Tours by appointment Mon.-Fri.  Groups of 5 or fewer call 701-873-4545; larger groups call 701-873-223-0441.

Coyote Station – Two miles south of Beulah.  A lignite-based electric generating station operated by Otter Tail Power Co.  Tours available by appointment 701-873-2571.

Beulah Mine – Located 2 miles south of Beulah.  Owned and operated by Dakota Westmoreland Corp.  The mine supplies lignite to the Coyote Station and Heskett  Station.  Tours are available by appointment by calling 701-873-4333.
