Fishing enthusiasts know Beulah is the place to be!

From competitive tournaments to casting in secluded, relaxing bays, the perfect fishing endeavor will be found for all in Beulah, from the expert angler to the novice.

The Dakota Walleye Classic is the most popular event, drawing anglers from across the Midwest for nearly 30 years. About 200 teams register for the event, typically held on the third weekend of July. The top 30 finishers win cash prizes with a first-place prize of $15,000. Organizers fill the weekend with other family-fun events, games, vendors, and live bands on Saturday night. Caught fish are donated to community organizations for free fish fry events throughout the year.

Other local fishing events include Fishing for the Cure to combat childhood cancer each June, the Coyote Fishing Tournament in early July and many more regional events in this list of North Dakota permitted fishing tournaments.

The ND Governor’s Walleye Cup is another popular event on Lake Sakakawea. The region’s largest walleye fishing tournament occurs each July. Recreational fishing on Beulah Bay and Lake Sakakawea does not end in the fall and is equally exciting when the ice is on. Chinook Salmon, Black Crappie, Brown Trout, Northern Pike and Walleye are popular catches through the winter.

Several businesses cater to fishing enthusiasts year-round, offering everything from ice house rentals to bait and equipment:
