So much water for summertime fun!

The western North Dakota landscape places Beulah in a desirable location with plentiful water recreation. From the endless bays on Lake Sakakawea and the Missouri River to the smaller Knife River and surrounding lakes, residents and visitors enjoy spending time on the water during the warm, cloudless skies defined by Beulah’s summers.

Lake Sakakawea is the third-largest man-made reservoir in the nation, created by the Garrison Dam on the Missouri River. Beulah Bay, on the beautiful south shore of the lake, brings outdoor enthusiasts from miles around to the area. If your idea of fun on the water doesn’t include a fishing pole and a hook, don’t worry! There are too many great beaches and coves to describe to work on your tan or practice water skiing tricks. Take the day and explore – you will find marinas along the lake offering cold drinks, snacks and gas. Pack your cooler, beach towel and sunscreen for a relaxing day on the lake.

Several providers offer rentals for all modes of water travel:

Residents and visitors can camp at Lake Sakakawea State Park and utilize the boat launch to water ski, fish, swim, or simply cruise through the endless inlets and open water. The park has 74 slips available for seasonal rental, as well as a swimming beach.

Another great way to cool off in the summertime is the Beulah Water Park. There’s family fun for all ages, from the zero-entry pool, lazy river, water playground and super slide. Families also turn to the park for swimming lessons and water aerobics classes throughout the summer season.

Dakota Waters Resort is a full-service resort on Lake Sakakawea with kayak, canoe and paddle boat rentals. Boaters can also rent a boat slip for an entire fun-filled season on the lake.

Kayaking or canoeing along the Knife River is a leisurely float trip perfect for families, right up to the point it converges with the Missouri River. Popular put-ins include Beulah’s Riverside Park and the Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site.
