Beulah CVB Celebrates Women’s History Month

Since 1987, America has recognized March as Women’s History Month and March 8th as International Women’s Day to celebrate the contributions of women throughout history. Although some contributions appear more significant than others, all contributed to women’s belonging and earning their equal place in society.
Fun Facts about Beulah:
- Beulah is home to strong women entrepreneurs. Many of the town’s small businesses, from boutiques to cafés and professional services, are women-owned, showcasing their impact and success.
- Beulah was named after Beulah Stinchcombe - by her uncle, L. C. Pettibone of the Tuttle Land Company.
North Dakota’s Women in History
North Dakota has a rich history of being part of the Women’s Suffrage movement and ratifying the 19th Amendment. To further honor and celebrate historical women of the state, here is a list of women who contributed to North Dakota’s progressive history:
- Laura Eisenhuth - First woman elected to a statewide office in the United States
- Minnie D. Craig - First House of Representatives Madame Speaker in the United States
- Brynhild Haugland - Known as “The Great Equalizer,” among her list of accomplishments, Haugland was instrumental in developing legislation that created a medical program other states modeled.
- Dr. Fannie Dunn Quain - First female doctor who later established the first baby clinic in the state.
- Florence “Tree Tops” Klingensmith - Though a native of Minnesota, Klingensmith is North Dakota’s first licensed female pilot.
These are only a few of the many inspiring and trailblazing women who opened doors for the women of today to continue and improve from their beginnings.

- Support women-owned businesses - Make a conscious effort to buy from women-owned and operated businesses and share your review on social media.
- Share women-based stories - Use social media to share stories about inspirational women, highlighting their achievements and accomplishments.
- Promote gender equality - Advocate for equal opportunities and fair treatment.
- Thank the women in your life - Express gratitude to those who positively impacted your personal journey of greatness. Consider mothers, grandmothers, aunts, big sisters, little sisters, teachers, neighbors, etc.
