Since 1985, July has been recognized as National Park and Recreation Month. “Each July, we celebrate park and recreation professionals and how they improve the lives of tens of millions of people, making a lasting impact in communities across the country. Park and recreation programs are essential to community health and well-being and help cultivate lifelong friendships, memories, and family bonds that people hold dear decades later.” - NRPA

Talking Trail and Mercer County

Togetherness has always been the core of this annual recognition. This year, National Park and Recreation Month celebrates 40 years with the theme, “Build Together, Play Together.”

Mercer County, Beulah’s home, joined Talking Trail to help residents and guests play together as they explore Mercer County in a self-guided way.

What is Talking Trail?

Talking Trail is a website, mobile app, and dial-in platform dedicated to helping people, as stated on the website, “Experience the Story. We share the rich history, heritage, and culture through stories that will be retold around the dinner table and the campfire.” “Rather than reading a line or two found on a sign, experience the whole story with an audio or video recording.”

Currently, Mercer County’s Talking Trail page features sites in Beulah, Hazen, and the Indian Villages in Stanton, ND. Scan the QR code for a little Talking Trail storytime.
