What could be simpler than water? Or more complex? For many industrial and advanced manufacturing projects, water is becoming a first-tier site selection variable alongside power, labor, and transportation infrastructure. Evaluating a site’s water readiness now goes beyond asking whether water service exists. Corporate users increasingly need to understand available capacity and quality as well as myriad permitting rules and timelines before advancing a project.

Soaring demand, aging infrastructure, regulatory complexity, and a focus on environmental impacts have turned what used to be simple into something complicated and arduous. Firms now have to ascertain whether a site can reliably deliver the required volume and quality of water, and whether all of the needed approvals can be garnered within the project’s development schedule. The result: water considerations are moving to the earliest stages of industrial site evaluation.
