Kat Socks, of Bismarck, reads and discusses her book, “Pickles – Adopted,” to several children during a live author event held at the Beulah Public Library in Beulah July 16. As many as 45 people attended and enjoyed the event. Published in 2018, “Pickles – Adopted” ended up winning six national awards.
Children’s book author Kat Socks travels across the country to speak about her series of books that involve a dog named Pickles. Pickles was a real dog who was at an animal shelter in Minot, while the city experienced dangerous flooding in 2011. After several rehoming attempts, Pickles finally found a forever home with one of Socks’ relatives. Today, Socks donates a percentage of her book sales to local animal shelters.
